Sudan Participates in Lausanne African Cinema Festival

Khartoum-Sudan Ambassador to Switzerland Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail has participated in the activities of the inauguration of the 13th. Edition of Lausanne African Cinema Festival, organized by a number of Swiss cinema industry institutions, Swiss Airways and the municipal council of Lausanne town.
Dr. Ismail explained in a press statement that this year session of Lausanne African Cinema Festival focused on Sudan as the administration of the occasion celebrates cinema production in a particular African country each year.
Ambassador Dr. Ismail referred to efforts exerted by the Sudanese Embassy in Switzerland for coordination and facilitation of the visit paid by a delegation of the festival to Sudan in last January for selection of Sudanese films for the event, as the country participates with three films.
He pointed out that the festival avails a good opportunity to Sudan to reflect its civilization and cultural diversity and old heritage in the cinema industry, reviewing the history of cinema in Sudan since the pre-Independence and in the period that followed this and the many films that were produced in the country.
The Ambassador attributed the shrink that occurred in cinema industry in later periods to weak potentials, shortage in cadres and lack of effective participation by the people, affirming the state’s determination to develop the cinema industry sector through training and qualification of Sudanese cadres and provision of the necessary facilities.
Dr. Ismail had meetings on the sidelines of the occasion with Chairperson of Lausanne Municipal Council, the speaker of Lausanne parliament and other related Swiss officials.
