IOM Affirms Support to Sudan to Ward off Effects of Climate Changes

Khartoum- Minister of Environment, Natural Resources and Physical Development Hassan Abdul Gadir Hilal met at his office on Monday Chief of Mission of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Sudan Ms. Catherine Northing in the presence of the Secretary General of the Higher Council for Environment.
The Minister explained that the meeting discussed issues of common concern, especially effects of climate changes on the migration of population besides joint projects that can be presented to the donors for enhancing joint work.
He pointed out that a memorandum of understanding was signed between the ministry represented in the Higher Council for Environment and IOM in the field of water harvesting and capacity building of migrants to face climatic changes.
The minister stressed the importance of combating the effects of climate changes for realizing sustainable development through mitigation and adaptation.
Ms. Northing, on her part, affirmed keenness of IOM on extending technical and logistical support to Sudan to ward off effects of climate changes.
