Hamad Praises Great Role Played by DDR Commission

Al-Sammani Awadallah - Khartoum- Governor of West Darfur State Hussein Yassin Hamad has commended the great role played by the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Commission in Blue Nile and West Darfur States in the fields of security, development and services.
Hamad, speaking over a program of Blue Nile TV Channel, said the DDR Commission has played an important role in collaboration with the partners in implementation of projects pertinent to the rule of law, water and education services, capacity building and production.
The DDR Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Salah Al Tayeb Awad, reviewed the great successes realized by the commission, which won UN praise, as it has completed demobilization of 58,000 former combatants, 41,000 of them have been reintegrated.
He said over the program of Blue Nile TV Channel that the commission would complete the process of demobilization and reintegration of the former combatants in Darfur by the end of the current year, referring to implementation of 134 projects as part of the 2017-2021 plan at the return areas of the demobilized persons, including establishment of 16 schools, 20 police stations, and courts, water projects in Darfur, Kordofan and Blue Nile States besides training centers.
He referred to challenges facing the DDR Commission including shortage in international support, lauding the role of the partners of Italy, Britain and Sweden besides Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
