Higher National Dialogue Committee Approves Formation of National Elections Commission

Najat Ahmed - Khartoum- The Higher Coordination Committee on Implementation of the Outcome of the National Dialogue approved in its meeting on Sunday, which was chaired by President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al Bashir, formation of the National Elections Commission and the Council of Political Parties Affairs prior to submitting them to the parliament for approval before the end of its current session.
President Al Bashir affirmed during his address to the meeting that formation of the Elections Commission has given concern to neutrality to enable holding of free and fair elections in 2020 that enhances the democratic process in the country.
The members of the committee underscored importance of speeding up formation of the Commission for Combating Corruption after removal of crosscuttings in powers and duties between it and similar institutions including Illegal Wealth Committee, Public Funds Prosecution Office, the Auditor General Chamber and the Grievances Chamber.
Presidential Aide Dr. Faisal Hassan Ibrahim considered formation of the Elections Commission, the Council of Political Parties Affairs and the Commission for Combating Corruption affirm pressing ahead with implementation of the outcome of the National Dialogue.
Minister of Information, Communications and Information Technology Bushara Juma Aror, on his part, indicated that convening the meeting of the committee comes to discuss the current developments and to speed up the procedures of the committee concerning the overall issues besides the current political and economic issues and the elections commission and the council of political parties, which are approved by consensus.
He added that consensus was achieved on pressing ahead with the National Dialogue and holding the elections on its set date besides on ways and means of boosting the peace process in the country through the higher council for peace and rejection of allegations that threaten the security of the country.
